FAIZABAD: A Samajwadi Party's candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections threatened to beat the city magistrate with shoes after he did not to heed his demand for a room allotment.
Tilak Ram Varma, SP's candidate from Faizabad, abused Faizabad city magistrate Awadhesh Kumar Mishra after he refused Varma's demand to allot a room to him in the Circuit House on Friday.
Varma rang up Mishra in the presence of SP workers and demanded a room for himself. After Mishra expressed his inability to do so, Varma lost his cool and abused him, threatening to beat him with shoes. The SP leader also told Mishra that he will get him transferred.
Mishra now fears for his life and said Varma can attack him. He filed a written complaint with the Faizabad district magistrate, Vipin Kumar Diwedi.
Varma was not available for comments. Surya Kant Pandey, member of SP state working committee, said "Varma's act cannot be justified. It's unlawful and he must be punished for it."
Varma was also accused of operating some illegal saw mill in his brickfields earlier. When the mills were seized, Varma had also tried to build pressure over authorities using his political links
