MURDER IN PESHAWAR
Rowinder Singh, a 25 year old Sikh young man, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in PESHAWAR on Sunday, January 5, 2020. This was unprovoked capital crime. It is not an isolated instance of extreme hatred of Non Muslims in the minds of Muslims in Pakistan, a country that was created in 1947 on the basis of hatred of the civilised, the liberal and the tolerant- a country that was born when both Gandhi and Nehru turned their backs in the most despicable (cowardly) manner on the Hindus and Hindusthan.
Another instance was the stoning of Gurdwara Janmasthan of Guru Nanak Dev ji by an angry mob in Nankana Sahib shouting filth and abuse. They were threatening the parents of the seduced and converted Sikh girl, the daughter of the priest there. It hurt the Sikhs not only in Nankana Sahib but worldwide. How would the Muslims react on the news that the daughter of the Imam of Mecca has eloped with a Christian (or a Hindu) young man to America and has embraced Christianity (or Hindu religion)?
The Hindus and Sikhs are also an easy target because they are perceived to have nobody at their back. Hence they are a fair game. Just see how America reacts when even one American is killed by terrorists abroad!
Therefore, the Sikh community is morally obliged to stand up for fellow Sikhs, especially where they are under threat, or in danger.
We are pleased to note that the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, have written to Government of Pakistan to ensure the safety of the minorities there. But what about the Chief Minister of EAST Punjab? And what about Mr Navjot Singh Sidhu who is held in high esteem by Mr Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan?
What about SGPC? What about the GURDWARAS? There are thousands of Gurdwaras on earth. Has a single Gurdwara passed a Resolution CONDEMNING the murder of this Sikh young man or the stoning of the sacred Janmasthan at Nankana Sahib? What about the Gurdwara where this young man used to go as congregation? Did they even mention his name in "Ardaas"?
We as Sikhs need to PERFORM much better otherwise we ALL are vulnerable EVERYWHERE. If this "detachment, neutrality and pseudo-secularism" continues then East Punjab, too, will go the way of West Punjab!
