Why The Congress Party’s Trust In The International Left-Wing Is Dangerous For India

There is a disturbing reluctance within the Indian National Congress to make any attempt to move on from its deeply ingrained sycophancy to the West. This has been made all the more clear by the recent actions of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) in meeting with well-known anti-India British Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, to discuss the abrogation of Article 370.
We are of course aware of Shri Rajiv Malhotra’s valuable work in exposing the international anti-India nexus, as documented in great detail in Breaking India. Unsurprisingly, Corbyn himself is noted in the book as targeting Indians in the UK via false allegations of rampant caste discrimination being perpetrated by the British Indian community, besides lending a platform to Indian insurgents in the United Nations under the guise of promoting human rights.[i]
More recently, the Labour Party under his leadership has played a key role in the attempt to internationalise the Kashmir issue, passing a resolution against the Modi government’s actions in the region.[ii] This has led to allegations of Labour playing ‘vote bank politics’, pandering to the British Pakistani population at the expense of British Indians (sound familiar, anyone?), resulting in Manoj Ladwa’s (adviser to Narendra Modi and founder of India Inc.) exit from the party.[iii] The question must therefore be asked as to why the IOC saw fit to engage with such a well-known anti-India figure, and what made it think that it has the right to speak on behalf of the nation?
For its part, the IOC claims that it met with Corbyn to ‘condemn’ the Kashmir resolution passed by his party and stress that it is India’s internal matter.[iv] However, this is directly contradicted by Corbyn’s own statement, in which he claims that he and the delegation ‘discussed the human rights situation in Kashmir’ and that ‘there must be an end to the cycle of violence and fear’.[v] This has been refuted by the IOC.[vi]
Even if the IOC is to be believed, it demonstrates an extraordinary lack of judgement and naivety for its representatives to meet with Corbyn in the first place. After all, if it truly believes that Kashmir is India’s internal matter, then why discuss it with a foreign politician? It is also concerning that the IOC is so surprised that a virulent Indophobe twisted the meeting to suit his own agenda.
The Congress Party’s ingrained subservience to the West is nothing new and is largely the reason why India has been denied her rightful place on the world stage for so long. Yet what is concerning is that the party has not accepted that its outlook must change, even after being dealt heavy blows by the electorate in two successive Lok Sabha elections. Moreover, the Congress’s obsession with the West has the potential to be very dangerous for India. Despite not even holding enough seats to be designated as India’s official opposition party, the Indian National Congress is still a respected name overseas, particularly as we know that there is no shortage of Western academics and public figures (aided by sepoys from our own community, as highlighted by Rajiv ji) who will take any opportunity to malign the Modi government and expressions of Indian pride.
The Congress therefore has no trouble finding a willing audience overseas. The trouble arises when party leaders demonstrate their inability to comprehend that their statements may be used against India. This notably happened when Imran Khan regurgitated the Congress’s alarmist and untrue rhetoric against India’s actions in Kashmir at the United Nations.[vii] Playing politics is all well and good, but when matters of sovereignty and India’s integrity are in question, the Congress must realise that its actions strike much deeper than the BJP – they threaten the nation itself.
A further matter for consideration is the issue of left-wing anti-India activism in particular. Although Rajiv ji has highlighted that both right- and left-wing forces have attacked India in their own ways, it is arguably the left-wing that has proven to be the greater threat in recent times.
Whether it is attempts to interfere in India’s internal matters on the basis of defending human rights[viii], or the disturbing efforts to paint Narendra Modi as a far-right fascist leader[ix] [x](therefore levelling the same accusations at the Indian voters who elected him) the global left-wing is now conspiring with forces within India to attack our motherland with a vengeance. This has international implications. Jeremy Corbyn’s rhetoric shows that he is no friend of India, yet his party still received significant support from British Indians in the last UK General Election in 2017.[xi]
It is clear that British Indians who have any consideration for India can no longer maintain any relationship with Corbyn’s Labour, as Manoj Ladwa has realised. The British Left has generally been looked upon with friendliness from an Indian perspective – it was the Labour PM Clement Attlee who granted India independence in the face of strong opposition from Conservative imperialists such as Winston Churchill.[xii] Yet the Western left-wing’s incessant attempts to dictate how India should think and behave suggest that it has now assumed the white man’s burden. The British Left probably regrets granting India independence all those years ago.
