FYI.

A slap in India’s fake face
New Delhi, Dec. 13: Ganga Devi asked ritual-crazy India a question today: why bother if you think it is a joke?

The target of her query was the full complement of the political establishment, ranging from the Prime Minister to his cabinet to Rahul Gandhi, and the occasion the customary tribute on the sixth anniversary of the Parliament attack.

The widow of Nanak Chand, the assistant sub-inspector who was killed in the 2001 attack, strode towards Manmohan Singh, apparently to remind him what a farce the annual ritual has become.

“I told them I had been invited to come here and I should be given a chance to speak,” she told The Telegraph later. “The event is held each year to honour the men who saved Parliament, but no minister has the time to even speak to us. What is the point of calling us all this way, if they don’t even want to ask us how we are?”

She levelled a graver — but not unusual — charge. “There were ministers who were laughing during the function. How can they do that? This is about dignity.”
