MULTAN: A man whose proposal of marriage was rejected by a woman allegedly raped her 12-year-old daughter in Alipur’s Rajput Colony.
The victim said his five accomplices also allegedly raped her.
The incident took place 20 miles from Meerwala Jatoi, where one Mukhtaran Mai was gang-gang-raped on June 22, 2002.
The girl told journalists on Sunday that she was sleeping in her house along with her grandmother, uncle and three brothers and sisters while her parents had gone to attend a marriage ceremony on January 26.
Six people namely Muhammad Arshad, Muhammad Azhar, Ghulam Nazik alias Kali, Nazik Hussain, Haji Ghulam Nabi and Abdul Razzaq entered her house and held her family at gunpoint. They tied everyone with bed sheets and raped her. She alleged one of the accused, Haji Ghulam Nabi, said he was avenging her mother, Nazir Mai’s refusal to marry him and instead marrying her stepfather.
The accused stayed at her house for seven hours and made off with valuables worth Rs 1.5 million. Later, councillors Rana Hamid and Mushtaq Hamdani and neighbours untied the entire family and informed police of the incident.
Police allegedly refused to take the girl to the hospital and did not register a case against the accused. Later, her parents approached the local magistrate who issued orders for her medical examination, which later stated that she had been raped.
Despite of the examination report, police still did not allegedly register a rape case and instead registered a theft case against the accused, as they (accused) had bribed them. She alleged Ghulam Nabi was also threatening to kill her family if they did not reconcile with the accused.
Police accused of failing to arrest women kidnappers: The police have failed to lay hands on a gang that has abducted some 24 women from the area and later sold them in Sindh, an aggrieved mother whose daughter was also allegedly abducted, told newsmen on Sunday.
Nasreen Bibi said her 22-year-old daughter Samina had been kidnapped from Qaisarabad (Multan) a month ago due to which her (Samina) 45-day-old infant died.
She alleged New Multan Police had arrested the kidnappers but released them after being bribed. Police had not recovered her daughter and the gang had sold her for Rs 50,000, she alleged.
She alleged one Bashir Ahmed, his wife Tahira Bibi and two accomplices Abdul Razzaq and Abdul Hafiz used to rent houses in different localities and once Tahira got friendly with the women of the area, they would kidnap them and move to a different locality.
She said Tahira had befriended Samina and took her to a market to buy cloth on November 4, 2002.
Tahira and her accomplices kidnapped Samina due to which her 45-day-old son died without his mother on December 4, 2002, she alleged.
She pleaded with concerned authorities for her daughter’s recovery.
