Let us also not forget Gujarat is not only the land of Gandhi -- it is also the land of Jinnah. The same Jinnah who called for Direct Action Day in Calcutta. And what happened that day is all well documented -- only people don't want to recall. Their memory is only etched with the Gujarat of March this year. How short and convenient memories can be?
Yes indeed. The memories of Hindus are very short, even those Hindus who remember the historical account, of this heinous crime (Jinnah's Murder Spree) against humanity, for them this event is as stale as yesterday's newspaper.
Although Jinnah had his feet solidly on the ground (and Gandhi did not), I like Jinnah even less. This Snaaf-O-Bitch was a Heavy-Duty Barbarian. His objective was subjugation of the whole of Kafir-Hindustan, at least to grab as much land of Hindustan for his Moslem-Pakistan as the British would allow.
He was not fighting for just a seat in the court room, he wanted to condemn the Kafir-Hindus, to be swallowed up into his Pakistan (not yet created). His actions (Direct-Action: Yom-E-Amal), in the pursuit of Pakistan, resulted in one of the largest genocides of all times in India.
No Hindu should have any doubt that, if Pakistan had not been agreed upon, this Snaaf-O-Bitch would not have hesitated to shed rivers of blood all over India (This SOB called it the Civil-War in India, and he was not kidding either).
The Hindus pondered quite a bit on Jinnah's Civil-War Threat. The human cost (slaughter of Hindus and of Indians) of this civil-war, would have been colossal, and Hindus had no taste for it (I have personally lived through the carnage of Partition, I know it for a fact that the concern of most Hindus at that time, was for the survival and preservation of their own Hindu Race, which is only normal and natural, and cannot be regarded as either Jehad or Barbarism, by any standard of measurement).
The Hindus had seen first hand how Jinnah's Jehadi Soldiers operate, the Hindus pleaded for time, but Jinnah wouldn't be put off, and repeated his Persistent Demands and Civil-War Threat, with suitable aggressiveness.
The Hindus knew darn well that Jinnah's Jehadis stopped at nothing, they were merciless cold-blooded killers, they were ruthless, and they carried on like madmen. They would have converted India into a giant waste-land. It was the frightening reputation of Jinnah's Jehadi Soldiers, demonstrated via Direct Actions in several provinces of India, that forced the Hindus to agree to Partition. There can be no doubt that Jinnah meant when he issued his threat (conveyed in no uncertain terms to all Congress Leaders, as well as to Non-Congress Hindu Leaders), Jinnah's threat was:
Either you Hindus agree to Partition (and creation of Pakistan) or there will be civil war, all across India.
Rest is history.
